Kap G

It’s rare to see an artist who raps about their Mexican culture while spitting trap rhymes with the best of Atlanta. Kap G is probably the first one doing it, and it’s mostly due to his upbringing in College Park; the heart of the Atlanta’s trap music history.

With a handful of songs and one EP to his name, Kap G has already worked with the likes of Jeezy, Fabolous, Wiz Khalifa and Pharrell. After shooting and uploading a video for his song with Chief Keef, “Tatted Like Amigos,” Kap G’s personal profile started rising with his Youtube view counts, and he was eventually signed to Atlantic. Something about the tall, slim Latino with his friendly face and charming swoop of bleach-blonde hair captured the attention of over 29k followers on Twitter and 43k on Instagram. And, in addition to his good looks, Kap’s fans are probably also entranced by the fact that he makes quintessential trap music like many of his peers, but he’s doing it in a new and different way. Screen Shot 2014-12-23 at 10.17.19 PM

DJ Drama and seven of his homeboys visited their old stomping grounds to drop some valuable knowledge on current college students.

All graduates of Clark Atlanta University: entertainment moguls DJ Drama, Don Cannon, and DJ Sense, educator Kyle Ames, investment banker Chris Griffin, filmmaker Noel Calloway, comedian Damien Lemon, and Anesthesiologist Elee Stewart formed the Brawley Hall panel, which they plan to take on tour. Using their knowledge and diverse skill sets, the men all plan to educate and work with students at various colleges who are craving information on how to put their degrees to practice in the real world.

The guys’ first stop was their Alma mater, CAU, where they offered up valuable advice about focus, working in the present and figuring out what you’re good at. But networking and building relationships was the message almost every speaker preached as gospel. Read more ›

On October 24, August Alsina certainly gave the students at Texas Southern University a night to remember. His sensational performance at TSU was the highlight of their 2014 Homecoming. This was one of his first shows since being released from the hospital and he tore the building down.

As the show opened with the song “Work,” he hit the stage with a cool confidence and electric vigor with his dark camo jacket, a long red t-shirt, white pants, and a neck loaded with gold. Throughout the set, the New Orleans, L.A. native performed songs such as the hit single “I Love this Shit,” “Numb,” “Ghetto,” “No Love,” “Downtown,” the ladies favorites “Kissin’ on my Tattoos” and “Let me Hit That” among many others.

The most memorable part of the show was the emotional and tear-jerking performance of his song “Make it Home.” Alsina set the scene by telling the story of Read more ›

As the night continued, Songz eventually made his way out of his suit jacket and button-down, leaving his fans in the audience mesmerized. The energy during the show only intensified when Songz directed the audience members to put on their cell phone lights, which lit the theater beautifully.

prince rolling stone

It’s no surprise that Prince brought the heat during his sold-out shows at the Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, Connecticut last Friday,Saturday and Sunday. The superstar blazed through his 35-year catalog performing old hits, newer hits, and even tributes to other greats such as James Brown, Isaac Hayes, and Michael Jackson.

Prince wowed the audience each night with his eccentric costumes, big fro, and funky dance moves, but it was his amazing performance that captured the audience and kept them engaged and on their feet all night. Each night was full of surprises that included guitar and keyboard solos, special guest appearances, and one to three encores.

Grammy nominated, multi-talented Artist Janelle Monae, who opened for Prince on Sunday, said it best when she  tweeted post show, “Prince is still THE greatest all around. RE inspired all over again. Wow. Amazing.” That sentiment was echoed by ticket holders of all ages and races on each and every night of the shows.

There has been an ever-increasing buzz in industry circles that the success of the Mohegan Sun shows would ignite a full tour, but so far, there has been no official confirmation. AFA is honored to have booked the only east coast dates currently on Prince’s concert schedule. What a way to close out 2013!
